Agartala, June 29 (FD) Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi on Monday lauded Tripura's child welfare initiatives, describing the state as a "model" for the rest of the country after visiting the revered Tripura Sundari Temple and inspecting key child welfare institutions.
After offering prayers at the Tripura Sundari Temple, the Union Minister visited an Anganwadi Centre, a One-Stop Centre and a Child Care Institution (CCI), where she reviewed the implementation of various welfare programmes.
Expressing satisfaction with the quality of services and care provided, Annapurna Devi said the Child Care Institution she visited could serve as a benchmark for child protection and rehabilitation across the country. She said Tripura has developed several best practices in child welfare that deserve to be replicated by other states.
The Minister noted that the state has effectively implemented various schemes under the Ministry of Women and Child Development in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat. She commended the efforts of the Tripura government, led by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, and the Social Welfare and Social Education Department in creating a supportive environment for children.
Annapurna Devi said she was particularly impressed after interacting with children residing at the CCI. Besides receiving formal education, the children are being provided with training in extracurricular activities, life skills and vocational skills, enabling their holistic development.
She also appreciated the state's after-care support mechanism, which provides vocational training and livelihood opportunities to children transitioning out of institutional care, helping them become self-reliant members of society.
