Agartala, Aug 28 (FD) A total of 68,277 cases are currently pending in the lower courts of Tripura, while 1,33,287 cases were disposed of during the 2025-26 financial year, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha informed the Legislative Assembly.
The figures were provided in response to questions raised by Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy regarding the status of cases pending in the state’s lower courts.
According to the reply, as of July 31, 2026, a total of 68,277 cases remained pending before the lower courts across Tripura. In contrast, the courts disposed of 1,33,287 cases during 2025-26, indicating a substantial volume of judicial disposal during the year.Stream History Documentaries
Responding to another set of questions from CPI(M) MLA Sailendra Chandra Nath, the Chief Minister, who holds charge of the Law Department, also provided details on the functioning of Fast Track Special Courts dealing with rape and POCSO cases.
Dr Saha stated that the state spent ₹2,08,94,636 during the 2025-26 financial year for the speedy trial and disposal of rape and POCSO cases through Fast Track Special Courts.
During the same period, 101 cases were disposed of, while 235 cases are currently pending before the courts, according to the government’s reply.
The figures placed before the Assembly highlight the workload faced by the state’s lower judiciary, while also showing the government’s expenditure and disposal record in cases involving sexual offences and children. The Fast Track Special Courts are intended to ensure quicker hearings and reduce delays in sensitive cases involving rape and POCSO offences. FD JK
