Agartala, Nov 30 (FD) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha, inaugurated the 30th Annual State Conference of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), Tripura State Branch, on Saturday at the IMA House in Agartala. Themed "Current Progress and Obstacles in Pediatric Medicine," the event, known as TRIPEDICON 2024, witnessed the participation of eminent pediatricians and healthcare professionals from across the state.
In her inaugural address, the Chief Minister emphasized the critical role pediatricians play in safeguarding the health and well-being of children. She encouraged doctors to approach their profession with a sense of social responsibility, contributing to government programs aimed at fostering a healthier future generation.
Highlighting the improved healthcare infrastructure in the state, Dr. Saha shared details of key initiatives implemented under her leadership. These include the Chief Minister's Healthy Childhood, Healthy Adolescent Abhiyan, the Nutrition Program, the National Child Health Program, Anemia Mukt Bharat Program, and Tripura Kishori Suchita Abhiyan. She also announced the launch of the State-wide School Health Mission as a pilot project in 125 Vidya Jyoti schools, which will focus on six pillars to promote health awareness among children and adolescents.
"Healthy children are the foundation of a strong and progressive society. Pediatricians have an undeniable role in the physical, mental, social, and spiritual development of our children," Dr. Saha stated.
The Chief Minister also recognized outstanding contributions to pediatric healthcare. Dr. Alekhya Dasgupta, a senior pediatrician, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her remarkable service to child health in Tripura. Additionally, Dr. Himani Debnath, a top performer in the Pediatrics department of the 2024 MBBS examination, received a special award and gifts.
The Chief Minister unveiled a commemorative memento for TRIPEDICON 2024, marking the occasion. She lauded the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Tripura State Branch, for its proactive role in raising awareness about child health issues and for organizing discussions on emerging challenges and advancements in pediatric medicine.
Addressing the conference, Director of Health Services, Professor Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Debbarma, highlighted the state's progress in child healthcare. Organizing Chairperson Dr. Mrinal Das delivered the welcome speech, while Dr. Srivas Das, President of the Tripura State Branch of IAP, extended the vote of thanks.
The event was attended by senior officials, including Rajiv Dutta, Additional Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, and Dr. Jayant Kumar Poddar, Executive Board Member of the Central IAP.
TRIPEDICON 2024 served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and strategies to overcome challenges in pediatric medicine, ensuring the continued health and prosperity of Tripura's youngest citizens.
