Trials for Indo-Bangla railway link connecting Tripura's Nischintapur to Gangasagar set for early September

Agartala, Aug 30 (FD) In a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity, a trial run of the railway line linking Tripura's Nischintapur with Bangladesh's Gangasagar railway station is set to take place on September 9 or 10, as announced by a senior official on Wednesday. The railway line's inauguration is expected to foster stronger bilateral ties and facilitate trade between the two neighbouring nations.
The project, spearheaded by both Indian and Bangladeshi construction agencies, IRCON and TexMaco Rail Engineering, respectively, has seen an investment of Rs 1,100 crore. Initially, the railway line will facilitate the movement of goods trains between Gangasagar and Nischintapur.
Subsequently, the network is poised to extend up to Agartala station, marking a significant stride in bolstering cross-border trade and connectivity.
Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), P Kumaran, played a pivotal role in overseeing the project's progress. Kumaran's recent visit to the Nischintapur railway yard, along with officials from various key agencies, signifies the comprehensive approach being taken to ensure the seamless operation of the railway link.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is diligently coordinating the venture, with a focus on establishing essential facilities for customs, immigration, internet services, and security at Nischintapur. With all eyes set on September 9 or 10, the commencement of goods train operations is eagerly anticipated, marking a significant milestone in fostering stronger ties between the two neighbouring nations.
