Tree Man of Telangana, Padma Shri D. Ramaiah passes away

Padma Shri D. Ramaiah, popularly known as the Tree Man of Telangana, passed away this morning in his native village, Reddy Palli, in Khammam district, Telangana. He suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the Khammam Government Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. He had been unwell for some time.
Ramaiah was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2017 for his exceptional contribution to environmental protection. He planted over one crore saplings during his lifetime and was deeply committed to raising awareness about the importance of trees. Recently, the Telangana government included his life story in the Class 6 curriculum to inspire young students.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State B. Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, former minister T. Harish Rao, and leaders across party lines offered condolences and praised Ramaiah’s lifelong dedication to the environment.
