TREDA to illuminate 9250 houses in remote area this year

Agartala, Jan 4 (FD) With the funds available from the Ministry of Development of Northeast Region (DoNER), the Tripura’s Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) has taken initiative to light up 9250 houses in the remote areas of the state.
An official of the TREDA said that multiple (274) micro grids would be set up in the districts of Dhalai, North Tripura, Unakoti, South and West Tripura districts where conventional electricity is not profitable due to the low density.
The official said that the ministry has sanctioned Rs.81 crore to Tripura for setting up the micro grids in the remote tribal inhabited villages, where at least 9250 houses would be benefitted.
“We have observed that many remote villages in Tripura are yet to get electricity due to geographical isolation, remoteness and low population density. People of those areas would now be benefitted”, he said.
The official explained that each solar grid will have installed capacity from 2 KW to 25 KW depending on the area’s population and works for it would be started soon.
The official said that the state has solar power potential has 2000 MW, of which only about 20 MW is being generated. FD JK
