Tragic mishap: couple dead, children struggle for life

Agartala, July 4 (FD) In a tragic mishap, a couple had died and their two children including a three-month old baby are now battling for life in hospital following their mud house collapsed by the hit of a huge landslip at Meghlipara tea estate in Old Agartala under JIrania subdivision of west Tripura district on Tuesday last, police said today.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the couple and their two children were in deep sleep, police said.
In the midnight, the couple identified as Rajen Tanti (35) and Jhuma Tanti (26), who eke out their profession as day labourer were in deep sleep in their thatched mud hut with their children. There was a huge landslip on their mud house, which collapsed on all the sleeping persons.
Alarmed by the strong sound their neighbours rushed at the spot and recovered them from debris and sent them to the Ranir Bazar primary hospital. The doctor on duty there referred them to GBP hospital. Doctors of the GBP hospital said that the couple was ‘brought dead’.
Their children are now in critical condition and struggling for life. One of the children was thirteen year-old while the infant daughter was only three year-old.
The chief minister Dr Manik Saha has mourned the death of the two tea garden labourers and stated that the state government is providing free treatment to them. FD JK
