Agartala, June 29 (FD) With a nine-year old child succumbing to his injuries the death toll in the incident of a chariot coming in contact with high tension wire in Kumarghat area of Unakoti district rose to seven, police said.
Seven people, including three children and three women died of electrocution and 16 others were injured as a Rath came in contact with the high tension electric wire on Wednesday.
Officer in Charge of Kumarghat police station, Sankar Saha said that police started investigation into the tragic incident after a family of the victim lodged a complaint against the organizer.
He also said that three persons of a family died in the incident and the child succumbed to his injuries on way to Agartala Government Medical College for better treatment on the day.
The deceased have been identified as Seema Paul (33), Susmita Baidya (30), Soma Biswas (28), Priya Ghosh (12), Rohan Das (09) and Shaan Malakar (09), Rupak Das (40).
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, last night visited the scene at Kumarghat , where the incident of electrocution had occurred and Kumarghat hospital.
Expressing deep shock at the incident, Saha said, an exgratia of Rs four lakh would be given to the next of keen of the deceased and Rs. 2.5 lakh would be given to the injured who suffered 60 percent burn injuries and other injured would be provided with Rs 74,000.
Saha also stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his deep grief in the incident and announced an assistance of Rs two lakh for the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the injured.
Sources in the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) said, altogether seven injured were shifted to the medical college, of which condition of five patients were critical. FD JK
