Agartala, Jan 22(FD): The President of Tripura unit of Trinamool Congress, Pijush Kanti Biswas today said that his party will contest the upcoming Tripura assembly elections alone and not join the CPI(M)-Congress alliance.
“Our assessment is that the alliance between Congress and CPI-M will face the same fate that happened in the last assembly elections in West Bengal because the Congress leaders and workers, who suffered in the hands of the Marxist cadres will not support the alliance”, Biswas told reporters here today.
TMC would field candidates, where they have the chance of winning, he said adding TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister will arrive in Tripura on February 6 to campaign for party candidates in the state.
“Our leader during her two-day stay in the state will also participate in a
road show”, Biswas said.
He said the party's All India general secretary; Abhishek Banerjee will also visit the state on February 2 and address two election rallies at Dharmanagar in North Tripura and Boxanagar in Sepahijala district.
He said, many party leaders and film stars from Kolkata will join the campaign in the sixty-member assembly elections scheduled for February 16 next. FD JK
