Agartala, Aug 27 (FD) Tripura Medical College (TMC) is rapidly emerging as a leading institution in medical education, standing on par with other renowned medical colleges in the country. The college's progress is attributed to the dedicated efforts of its doctors, professors, and health workers. This was emphasized by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha during his speech at the 19th Foundation Day celebration of Tripura Medical College and Dr. BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital.
During the event, Chief Minister Dr. Saha inaugurated an open gym, a children's park, and a badminton court on the college campus, reflecting the institution's commitment to holistic development. He highlighted that while Agartala Government Medical College and Tripura Medical College were both planned to launch in 2005, TMC's journey began in 2006 due to a delayed letter of permission from the Medical Council. To date, 13 batches of students have graduated from the college.
The Chief Minister underscored the significant advancements in TMC's medical services, which have greatly reduced the need for patient referrals outside the state. He noted that the state's improved healthcare system now facilitates complex surgeries, including kidney transplants and plastic surgery. Additionally, the ongoing infrastructural development at both Agartala Government Medical College and TMC ensures the delivery of quality education, benefiting the state's residents.
Addressing the students, Dr. Saha encouraged them to build trust within the community through their actions and professionalism. He also mentioned that he had discussed the recent flood situation in the state with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, assuring that the central government would provide necessary support.
Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte praised TMC's pivotal role in the state's healthcare sector over the past 18 years. He acknowledged the college's effective management of the quarantine center during the Covid-19 pandemic and urged continued service during the current flood crisis. The event concluded with the awarding of medals and certificates to outstanding students by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries.
