Tipra Motha warns of exit from Govt. over ‘Tiprasa Accord’ implementation

Agartala, Apr 19 (FD) Riding on the momentum of a sweeping victory in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has issued a strong warning to the ruling coalition, threatening to withdraw support from the state government if the provisions of the ‘Tiprasa Accord’ are not fully implemented at the grassroots level.
While asserting that the party’s electoral success was more than a political victory, Debbarma described it as a “message” to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said Tipra Motha had joined the state government based on commitments made by the Centre to safeguard tribal interests, and cautioned that failure to honour those commitments would compel the party to reconsider its position in the alliance.
“Unless the accord is implemented in full, we cannot continue with the government,” Debbarma said, adding that public frustration over the perceived delay in execution of key provisions was reflected in the ADC poll outcome. He also claimed that statements made by Chief Minister Manik Saha during the campaign were rejected by voters.
On the timeline for a final decision, Debbarma indicated that the party would take up the matter with Shah after the conclusion of the ongoing election campaign in West Bengal.
The Tipra Motha leader, who had earlier praised former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, was sharply critical of the incumbent leadership during the campaign, at one point accusing Saha of being “anti-tribal.” Notably, the remarks did not draw any immediate rebuttal from senior BJP leaders in the state.
Party sources indicated that in the wake of the BJP’s setback in the ADC polls, further engagement with Debbarma and the evolving political situation in Tripura is likely to be handled at the level of the Union Home Minister. FD JK
