Agartala, June 02 (FD) TIPRA Motha, a tribal based regional party in Tripura today threatened to launch a movement against the state for not releasing funds to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council’s (TTAADC), which constitute two third of the state territory.
The leader of the opposition in the state assembly and a prominent leader of TIPRA Motha, Animesh Debbarma alleged that the state government was not releasing its dues to the tribal council, as a result of which developmental works in the tribal council areas, which is home to tribals, who form one third of the state’s estimated forty lakh population came to a halt.
The regional party swept the TTAADC elections held in 2021.
Debbarma, who was an executive member of the TTAADC, said, during the regime of the erstwhile Left Front government, the budget of the tribal council reached to Rs 1, 000 crore in every Financial Year, but it dropped to Rs 586 crore.
“Of the Rs 586 crore Rs. 76 crore was not released by the incumbent BJP government last year. In the current fiscal (2022-23) the approved budget was Rs 619 crores. State government has not even paid Rs 60 crores. We think it is discrimination “.
He further alleged that the TTAADC authorities were unable to pay the salary of its employees because of paucity of funds.
“Now, we have no alternative other than launching a movement against the state government for its step motherly attitude. We will try to have other political parties on our side. We think our movement will have an impact before the general elections in the country”, he added. FD JK
