Agartala, July 04 (FD) The Chairman of TIPRA Motha, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, has again begun his sound and fury to launch a movement for 'Greater Tipraland'.
The demand seems fictitious, as his proposed ‘Greater Tipraland’ comprises parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar.
It seems the royal scion, who is going against the spirit of the Manikya dynasty, is trying to heat up the situation before the parliamentary elections as a trick for bargaining with the central government.
During a recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the party presented its demand for Greater Tipraland, emphasizing the need for a constitutional solution to address the concerns of the indigenous tribal community.
However, he never explained what greater Tipraland is or if the Government of India needs to take up the issue bilaterally with neighboring Bangladesh.
Pradyot asserted that TIPRA Motha would not repeat the mistakes of the past and insisted on the fulfillment of their core demands before joining the government.
The movement, set to begin on July 8 at Madhab Bari in West Tripura district, aims to exert pressure on the government. Pradyot emphasized peaceful protests and non-violence while advocating for the demands of Greater Tipraland.
The party plans to undergo restructuring during a plenary session on July 15–16, focusing on individuals who have actively worked for the community rather than pursuing positions of power.
Pradyot called for peaceful participation at the district and block levels, stressing the importance of continuous pressure on the government to achieve its objectives. He also expressed the party's willingness to consider "all options" if talks regarding Greater Tipraland failed, suggesting the possibility of exploring alliances with opposition parties.
Additionally, Pradyot addressed the issue of the uniform civil code, advocating for the protection of women's rights and the preservation of customary laws for tribals in the Northeast. He criticized statements suggesting the cancellation of Scheduled Tribe status for indigenous people who convert, emphasizing the need for unity within the community. FD SB JK
