Agartala, April 12 (FD) The supremo of Tipra Motha and a royal scion, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Friday stated that the recent statement of the leaders of the Bangladesh including Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus indicate that they are active to destabilize India’s North-East.
He also said that the central government would have to ensure that Pakistan’s ISI might try to take advantage in the situation, but the central government foils them.
“The leaders and the Government of India have to ensure that Pakistan and its agencies including ISI cannot sponsor the violence in the region”, Debbarma said.
The Motha Chief said this while meeting the returnees of the banned insurgent outfit, the National Liberation Front of Tripura. He also discussed the pending issues of the outfit with the government.
The Tripura United Indigenous Returnees People’s Council (TUIRPC) had blocked the national High Way 8 at the Hatai Kotor, or otherwise known as the Baramura hill range in February to press for their demands.
However, the movement was withdrawn after negotiations with the government officials.
The problems of insurgency began in 1967, after an outfit named as ‘Sengcrak’ took up arms, but the insurgency reached its peak in the decades of eighties.
The militancy came down during the Left Front’s period, when Manik Sarkar was the Chief Minister. They in collaboration with the central government had paid Rs 1.5 lakh, vocational training and a Rs. 2000 as monthly stipend to the ultras who laid down arms. FD JK
