Agartala, 17 Oct (FD) The TIPRA Motha, the ruling party in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has threatened to organize a protest demonstration in every rural development bloc on 15th October against the role of the state election commission in the voter list issue.
In a press conference at Chandramahal here on Sunday, Motha president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl and Executive member of the tribal council Animesh Debbarma criticized the role of the state election commission in the voter list issue.
They announced in the press conference that Tipra Matha will lead a protest demonstration in every rural development bloc on 15th Oct.
Animesh Debbarma, challenged that Tipra Motha can win over 400 seats out of 527 seats from the self proclaimed majority party if the village committee elections are held now.
Tipra Motha accuses that BJP has always tried to avoid Village committee elections to suppress the voice of the Tipras. They also said that Tipra Motha will continue to raise their voice and fight to protect their existence and constitutional rights.
Debbarma further accuses that BJP is not only conspiring to avoid the village committee elections but trying to disable the TTAADC as a whole. Government is trying to stop various developmental projects in the TTAADC area. Even so, the government is trying to cripple the finances of the Tribal welfare department in ADC areas.
TTAADC chairman Jagadish Debbarma was also present along with other leaders in the press conference on Sunday.
The TTAADC is a vital part of the culture and administration of Tripura as a whole, they maitained. However, Tipra Matha has raised a number of issues regarding their inconveniences and dissatisfaction towards the present BJP government.
The village committee election for 527 seats was supposed to be held in 7th March, 2021. Owing to the COVID 19 pandemic, the election was held off. However, the Agartala municipal election was held at the end of 2021 with no apparent problem. Hence, two members from Tipra Matha have filed a case in Tripura High Court resulting in orders from the court to arrange the village committee elections in the first week of November.
The problem doesn’t end with an affirmative order from the court. There are a number of missing names from Reang refugees in the voter list for village committee elections. A NGO in the state filed a case to request the court to add 21700 Bru Reangs in the voter list. But despite that, the state election commission on Saturday announced that the election commission of India and Tripura election commission has released the final voter list on Jan 5 of this year. The next voter list will only be released on Jan 5, 2023, thus leaving no chances for adding the missing names to the list. FD DM JK
