Agartala, July 27 (FD) A series of tragic incidents involving the deaths of three young men in separate cases of alleged murder and suicide has raised fresh concerns over the growing incidence of unnatural deaths across Tripura.
According to police sources, the three incidents occurred in different parts of the state over the past 24 hours.
In the first incident, Shubham Debnath (31), a freelance photographer, was found hanging at his residence in the Datta Para area of Aralia under East Agartala Police Station.
Speaking to reporters, his elder brother, Rupam Debnath, said Shubham had returned home on Sunday night, had dinner with the family and retired to his room. When he did not wake up until late the following morning, family members repeatedly called out to him. Receiving no response, they forced open the door and found him hanging inside the house.
Police from the College Tilla outpost were informed and shifted the body for post-mortem examination. The family members said they were unaware of any reason that might have prompted him to take the extreme step. Police have registered an unnatural death case and launched an investigation.
In another incident, Suman Debnath (27) was allegedly beaten to death at his residence in Ranirgaon under Ranirbazar Police Station.
According to his elder brother, Rupam Debnath, Suman, who earned his livelihood through odd jobs, was alone at home on Sunday afternoon when a group of unidentified miscreants allegedly entered the house and assaulted him. He succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive.
No eyewitnesses have yet been identified, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police have registered a murder case and begun an investigation to trace those responsible.
In the third incident, Bishal Das (24), a resident of the Durgabari BOC area under Bamutia, allegedly died by suicide after reportedly being humiliated and threatened over a personal relationship.
His elder brother, Bimal Das, alleged that Bishal had been in a relationship with a young woman from the same locality. According to him, the woman’s mother recently confronted Bishal, allegedly insulted him and threatened to implicate him in a theft case involving ₹20,000 if he did not end the relationship.
The family alleged that the incident left Bishal deeply distressed. He allegedly consumed poison at his home on Sunday night. Family members rushed him to a nearby Primary Health Centre after finding him unconscious, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The three deaths have shocked residents in the respective localities, with police continuing investigations into all the cases to ascertain the exact circumstances behind each incident. FD JK
