Agartala, July 25 (FD) Three members of a family were found dead under mysterious circumstances at West Muhuripur in South Tripura's Shantirbazar subdivision on Friday, prompting police to investigate whether the case involves a triple murder or a staged suicide.
The deceased have been identified as Shankar Chakraborty, his wife Chhabi Chakraborty, and their younger son Krishna Chakraborty. Police recovered the blood-stained bodies of Shankar and Chhabi from inside their residence, while Krishna was found hanging in another room.
Police from Baikhora and Belonia police stations, along with senior district officials, rushed to the spot after being alerted and launched an investigation. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, while forensic experts are examining the crime scene to establish the sequence of events.
According to the family's elder son, Mithun Chakraborty, Krishna, who had been working for a private company, called him earlier in the day and asked him to collect the house key from a nearby relative. When Mithun returned, he found the house locked from inside. Unable to enter, he looked through a rear window and discovered Krishna hanging, while his parents were lying dead with severe injuries. He immediately alerted neighbours, who informed the police.
Residents said Krishna had recently lost his job and had been staying with his parents. Family members, however, denied any serious domestic dispute or conflict that could have led to the tragedy and demanded a fair and impartial investigation.
The condition of the crime scene has raised several questions. Some local residents alleged that Krishna's hands appeared to have been tied, casting doubt on the possibility of suicide. They also questioned how two victims suffered fatal bleeding injuries while the third was found hanging, suggesting the possibility of foul play.
Police have not ruled out any angle and said no conclusion would be drawn until the post-mortem and forensic reports are received. Investigators are collecting forensic evidence, examining call records and digital data, and recording statements from relatives and neighbours to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
