Agartala, March 07(FD): Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala today organized series of programmes on the occasion of the historic speech delivered by the father of the nation of Bangladesh inspiring people for freedom movement
The Assistant High Commission hosted events to commemorate the day on the grounds of the embassy. The national anthem and Bangladeshi flag were raised at the embassy grounds at 9:30 a.m. Wreaths were laid and tributes were made to the image of Bangabandhu at 9:35 am. A minute of silence was observed at 9:45 in the morning in honor of the nation's founding father, his martyred family members, and the martyrs who gave their lives in the great liberation fight.
Many speakers including Assistant High Commissioner of the mission Mr. Arif Mohammad, President of the Agartala Press Club, Jayanta Bhattacharya, two recipients t of the Great Liberation War friendship award Mr. Shyamal Chowdhury and Mr Swapan Bhattacharya were among others, who delivered their lecture on the significance of the lecture of Bangabandhu.
Assistant High Commissioner Mr. Arif Mohammad said, on this day in 1971, at the then Race Course Maidan, Bangabandhu made one of the most famous speeches in history-his speech on March 7-in which he thunderously pleaded for independence.
Bangabandhu had a lifelong desire of making Bangladesh a happy, affluent "Golden Bengal," one that was independent and sovereign. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged everyone to use their positions to work together to build Bangladesh a developed, prosperous, and intelligent nation by 2041 while keeping this aim in mind.
The event was attended by representatives from Agartala Mission, people from all walks of life as well as regional leaders from the state of Tripura, journalists, and media personalities.
Mr. Md. Rezaul Haque Chowdhury, the mission's first secretary also delivered his speech and anchored the programme. FD JK
