Ten-year-old boy successfully undergoes Open Heart Surgery in Tripura

Agartala, Jun 29 (FD) In a remarkable medical achievement, ten-year-old Akash Das, hailing from Udaipur, underwent successful open heart surgery for a congenital heart defect at the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Department of GB Hospital in Agartala, Tripura. Akash's condition was detected during a congenital heart disease detection camp organized under the National Child Health Programme.
The surgical team led by Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharya, diagnosed Akash with a major birth defect known as an Atrial septal defect. The four-hour-long open heart surgery, conducted on June 23, rectified the defect, allowing the blood to flow in the correct direction. Currently, Akash's condition is stable, and he is expected to make a full recovery in the coming days.
The surgery was conducted free of charge as Akash was a beneficiary of the Rashtriya Child Health Programme. The achievement highlights the dedication and expertise of the entire team at the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Agartala Government Medical College, and GB Hospital. The initiative aims to provide essential medical services to underprivileged families under the National Health Mission.
