The Telangana High Court has struck down Government Order No 16, which allowed the regularising of contract employees. The High Court quashed the orders issued by the earlier BRS government, declaring that it is against the Constitution. However, the court said, the government cannot fire already regularized employees. The court also said, governments should not regularise contract employees from now onwards and they should fill vacancies as per the law.
Some unemployed youth approached the High Court challenging the earlier BRS Government’s decision, regularise contract lecturers working in Degree, Junior colleges and Polytechnics. The petitioners said, the government regularised the contract employees against the rules. The earlier BRS Government in Telangana regularised over 5,500 contract lecturers and employees working in 40 government departments.
