Teacher Murdered in Melaghar; Family Seeks Justice amid Police Inaction

Agartala, Jan 31 (FD) Teacher Haimanti Singh Barman was allegedly set on fire by her husband, Mrinal Kanti Barman, along with his brother and other in-laws. The victim’s sister, Binapani Singh, has now filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, seeking justice.

Despite the brutal nature of the crime, the accused continue to roam freely, and the police have yet to take decisive action. The victim’s family faced harassment when they attempted to lodge a complaint at the police station.

Although an FIR (No. 2024/MLGO64) was registered at Melaghar Police Station on December 27, authorities have not made any arrests. Binapani Singh has demanded immediate action against both the accused and the police officers responsible for mishandling the case. The family continues to seek justice as outrage grows over police inaction. FD SB
