Agartala, May 8 (FD) In a strong push to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) from India by 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon citizens to take individual responsibility by adopting TB patients under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA) and the Nikshay Poshan Yojana (NPY), part of the larger Ni-Kshay Mitra initiative. The program emphasizes nutritional, medical, and emotional support to TB patients, encouraging every individual to stand up as a "Nikshay Mitra" and aid the nationwide TB elimination campaign under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP).
Responding to the Prime Minister’s appeal, a TB patient adoption event was organized today at Agnibina Hall in Jirania, Tripura. Hosted by the Jirania Community Health Center in collaboration with the State Health and Family Welfare Society, the event highlighted community support as a powerful tool in the fight against TB.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who attended the event as the chief guest, urged citizens and public representatives alike to engage actively in the movement. “TB was once a dreaded disease, but it is now curable through timely treatment, proper medication, and good nutrition,” he stated. Chowdhury pledged to personally become a Nikshay Mitra by providing monthly nutritional support to TB patients in Majlishpur.
The program opened with a welcome address by District TB Officer Dr. Mousumi Ghosh. Other notable speakers included NHM Managing Director Prashanta Badal Negi and Jirania Panchayat Samiti Chairman Pritam Debnath. The event also saw the presence of Jirania Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Ratan Kumar Das, Jirania Block BDO Tushar Alam, and prominent social workers Ranjit Roy Chowdhury and Parthasarathi Saha.
The event not only reaffirmed support for the Prime Minister’s vision but also strengthened the resolve of local communities to eradicate TB from Tripura and beyond. FD SB
