Agartala, Aug 27 (FD) A 28-year-old woman from Harbatli, Sarum, and her newborn baby were rescued and brought to Sabrum Sub-Divisional Hospital in a critical condition on August 24. The woman, who gave birth at 4 a.m., suffered from severe postpartum hemorrhage. The situation became dire as the area was flooded due to the overflowing Manu River.
In response to the emergency, HOPE activist Kartamala Tripura contacted Dr. Soumik Hazra, the Medical Officer of Sabrum Sub-Divisional Hospital, at 8 a.m. Dr. Hazra immediately alerted the subdivisional administration, which promptly deployed an NDRF team to the location. Despite the challenging conditions, the rescue team, accompanied by Dr. Hazra and Nursing Officer Debashis Nath, set off by boat from Manughat at 8:30 p.m. to reach Harbatli.
Late that night, the mother and child were safely transported to Sabrum Sub-Divisional Hospital. The mother was found to have significantly low hemoglobin levels due to the hemorrhage. Dr. Suman Debvarma provided essential treatment, stabilizing her condition. She was then referred to the South District Hospital in Shantirbazar, where obstetricians and gynecologists Dr. Madhumita Roy and Dr. Kaushik Mahajan administered two units of blood and continued monitoring her recovery.
