Agartala, Feb 25 (FD) A group of surrendered insurgents on Tuesday blocked the National Highway near the Champaknagar bridge demanding fulfillment of their 21 point charter of demands.
The protest began this morning and likely to continue till 6 PM today.
The protesters also planned for similar blockades at Bishramganj, Amarpur, Hezamara and Khowai Chowmuhani, but they could not organize such blockades except in Champaknagar.
However, they have exempted essential services and vehicles of examinees from the purview of the blockade.
The leader of the surrendered insurgents, Daniel Debbarma said that they would further organise such blockades unless their demands are met by the government.
He said that their main demand is to provide accommodations to the surrendered insurgents.
“This is really strange that the government can sign a memorandum of understanding with any organization, but they do not bother to fulfill their promises”, Debbarma told reporters.
He also threatened to further escalate the movement if the Government did not pay heed to their demands.
Police has claimed to closely monitor the situation. FD JK
