Surrendered ATTF, NLFT Members Block NH and Railway Track Over Seven-Point Demands

Agartala, Aug 28 (FD) Members of the surrendered militant organisations, the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) and the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), launched a fresh agitation on Friday, blocking the Assam-Agartala National Highway at Champaknagar and a railway line in the Brigudas area in support of their seven-point charter of demands.

The protesters alleged that several assurances made by the Central and state governments at the time of their surrender, including rehabilitation, financial assistance and other promised benefits, remain unfulfilled. They claimed that repeated appeals to the administration had failed to bring about a permanent solution to their grievances.

Similar protests and road blockades had been staged earlier in Champaknagar and other areas. Although the authorities had reportedly assured the protesters that their concerns would be addressed, they alleged that no effective action followed, forcing them to resume their agitation.

The protesters warned that the blockades would continue until their demands were addressed. They said they would not withdraw the agitation merely on the basis of administrative assurances and demanded that the Chief Minister and the Director of the Tribal Welfare Department visit the protest site, hold discussions with them and provide concrete commitments regarding the implementation of their demands.

The simultaneous blockade of the highway and railway line has raised concerns over possible disruption to vehicular and rail movement, potentially causing inconvenience to commuters and transport operators. Security and administrative personnel have stepped up surveillance in the affected areas, while efforts are reportedly underway to engage with the protesters and restore normal movement. FD JK
