Agartala, Aug 14 (FD) The state-level Sukanta Birth Anniversary 2026 was celebrated with due dignity at Vivekananda Sardha-Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, where Minister for Industries and Commerce Santana Chakma inaugurated the programme organised by the School Education Department.
Speaking at the event, Minister Santana Chakma highlighted the lasting relevance of poet Sukanta Bhattacharya, whose literary works and poetry gave voice to exploited and deprived sections of society and inspired the youth of his time. She said that although Sukanta lived only for a short period, his extraordinary literary contributions continue to inspire generations.
The minister said students and young people are the future of the country and stressed the responsibility of society and the education system to provide them with proper guidance. She emphasised that the diverse talents and potential of students must be identified, nurtured and developed so that their energy can contribute to the progress of the country and society.
Santana Chakma further said that taking the country to the pinnacle of progress requires deep love for the nation as well as knowledge of India's rich culture and heritage. According to her, Indian culture plays an important role in awakening patriotism among young people and serves as a major source of inspiration for national development.
A major highlight of the programme was the felicitation of schools from North Tripura district that achieved 100% success in the 2026 TBSE Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations. A total of 29 schools were honoured for their outstanding results. The guests presented the awards to the respective headmasters, recognising the dedicated efforts of teachers and students.
The programme also featured cultural performances by students from different schools, including recitation, music and dance. A tree plantation programme was also organised on the premises of Vivekananda Sardha-Shatabarshiki Bhavan as part of the occasion.
Among those present were North Tripura Zilla Parishad Chairperson Aparna Nath, MLA Jahar Chakraborty, Zilla Parishad Vice-Chairperson Bhabatosh Das, Dharmanagar Municipal Council Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen, District Education Officer Firanjan Tripura, Joint Director of the District Information and Culture Office Ripon Chakma, special speaker and former headmaster Ripon Chakraborty, and former headmaster Gurupada Chakraborty, among others.
The celebration paid tribute to Sukanta Bhattacharya's literary legacy while also recognising the achievements of North Tripura's educational institutions. The felicitation of the 29 successful schools highlighted the collective contribution of students, teachers and educational institutions towards strengthening the district's academic performance.
The event concluded with a renewed emphasis on education, cultural awareness, patriotism and the importance of nurturing young talent for the future development of Tripura and the nation. FD SB
