Strict measures for peaceful elections: DGP

Agartala, Apr 9 (FD) Director General of Police (DGP), Amitabh Ranjan has said that all precautionary measures have been taken for peaceful conduct of parliamentary elections for the two seats in Tripura.
Talking to the reporters on Monday, Ranjan said, more than 17,000 people have been arrested so far after the immediate announcement of the elections since March 16 of which Twelve and a half thousand people have been brought into police remand. In the last one month, the police seized more than eight and a half crore worth of illegal goods.
He said, a total of 84 companies of Central Security Forces including 4,680 BSF personnel and 1,368 CRPF personnel were already deployed and altogether 12000 security personnel would be deployed for electioneering .
Regular road marches are going on; the DGP said adding that a total of 2,500 flags marches have been set up in the state so far.
Police collected a fine of Rs 1 crore and thirty four lakhs from vehicles over two and a half lakhs by conducting search at Naka Point.
Ranjan said, BSF was also asked to seal the border and step up vigil on the 856 km long border with Bangladesh.
However, DGP said that after the election and return of the central forces the police administration will face new challenges for maintaining law and order due to paucity of forces. FD JK
