Statehood Demand Committee turns to be a political party

Agartala, Nov 18 (FD) The Statehood Demand Committee (SDC) of the IPFT (Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura) Tipraha, which was formed a year ago, has now emerged as a separate political party on Sunday last.
A breakaway faction of the IPFT itself, IPFT Tipraha has been functioning as a social organisation for the last six years.
“We formed the SDC on March 29, 2023. Now, it is a full fledge a party. We named it State Democratic Party (SDP),” a leader of the newly formed party told reporters.
Amulya Debbarma has been made the president of the party while Krishnamohan Debbarma and Bishu Kumar Debbarma have been appointed vice presidents. Japu Debbarma is the general secretary and Ramendra Reang and Sumanta Jamatia are the assistant general secretaries now.
Soon after conversion of the party, SDP Chairman Aghore Debbarma alleged that both IPFT and Tipra Motha have compromised their separate statehood demand.
He alleged that TIPRA Motha leaders Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma and IPFT’s Suklacharan Noatia have abandoned their separate statehood demand after becoming ministers.
The veteran separatist leader claimed that he had raised the Tipraland demand since 2009.
The IPFT blocked the national highway in 2017 and some of their members joined a naked protest over the Tipraland demand.
“A section of tribal leaders celebrated claiming that their demand was fulfilled. But has anyone got Tipraland yet?” Aghore Debbarma leaves a question. FD JK
