Agartala, May 23 (FD) A high-level meeting was convened on Monday at the Secretariat's Conference Hall to generate state-level awareness about the 'Mission LIFE' programme. The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, saw the presence of Principal Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology KS Shetty, along with secretaries and senior officers from various departments.
The primary objective of 'Mission LIFE' is to transform the climate change prevention programme into a public movement by promoting behavioral changes. The campaign aims to create widespread awareness and engagement.
During the meeting, Animesh Das, the Director of the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment, emphasised the importance of adopting environmentally friendly habits in daily life to protect the environment. He presented a comprehensive overview of the 'Mission LIFE' campaign initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Government of India, through a pictorial report. The campaign focuses on seven key areas, including energy conservation, water conservation, reduction of single-use plastics, waste management, healthy living, e-waste reduction, and waste-free eating habits.
Das further informed that the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change had set a target for the State Department of Science, Technology, and Environment to organise 2,000 activities under the 'Mission LIFE' programme across the state in May. So far, 403 activities have been successfully carried out. The Director also discussed the action plans of various state government departments for implementing the 'Mission LIFE' programme, along with the introduction of the 'Meri LIFE' portal.
The 'Mission LIFE' programme aims to create a significant impact by encouraging individuals to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to mitigating climate change. With the state government's active involvement and support from various departments, the programme is expected to foster a collective effort towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
