Agartala, Mar 30(FD) Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumder, announced today that the Bangladeshi government has been asked in a letter to clear the Akhaura and Kalapania canals on their side so that the city of Agartala is free from flooding.
During a press conference, Mayor Majumder stated, "The monsoon is coming, and we have taken a number of steps to make the city of Agartala flood-free. We've made a lot of progress since 2018. It has come to our attention that during the rainy season, some areas are still flooded. Additionally, we noticed that the Akhaura and Kalapania canals carry water from Agartala city. When the Akhaura canal was blocked, the city's water supply backed up and was unable to travel through the canal; however, we have since cleaned it using contemporary technology.
He added that they had begun cleansing the Kalapania Canal.
The Kalapania Canal has also been invaded by some individuals, and we are currently discussing this with other government officials. We are working diligently to prevent water logging in the metropolis, he said.
Majumder brought up yet another significant issue, namely that the water flow wasn't working correctly because the canal on the Bangladeshi side wasn't cleaned.
"However, we clean it every year." Dr. Manik Saha, the Chief Minister, has also ordered us to make the city water-free. We have also written a letter to the Bangladesh section requesting that the canal on their side be cleaned so that no problems develop in the coming days" The mayor said. FD SB JK
