Agartala, Oct 19 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday encouraged students from technical background and entrepreneurs to use the state's modern facilities and taking the opportunities of growing IT sector to launch start-ups in Tripura.
Dr. Saha, who inaugurated 'Tripura Start-Up Week' in a programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan organized by the Directorate of Information Technology, said the IT sector will play an important role in making self-reliant Tripura in the future.
In this context he said that there is a conducive atmosphere in Tripura including connectivity and power supply for development of IT industry. Besides, the literacy rate in Tripura is commendable as compare to several other states of the country.
During the programme the Chief Minister launched two start-ups products such as- Chitrika and Oman and inaugurated three services namely- Medic app, Career Bichar and Geocell.
Dr. Saha also launched New Generation Innovation Network and Tripura IT/ITeS Policy-2022 in the programme.
The project aims at creating an ecosystem to promote innovation in technical institutions and to bring them within the start-up ecosystem. The students would identify the local problems and then they would be encouraged to find out technological solutions to solve them. At present, the project covers four technical institutions.
He said, there are 50 start-ups from Tripura have got registration in the Start-Up India Portal so far and among them, 13 start-ups got registered in Tripura IT/ITeS scheme. The Department of Information and Culture (IT) is providing financial and other support to them, Dr Saha added.
The Chief Minister said that the current era is completely dependent on modern technology. And Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several initiatives to build Digital India.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha said students from technical institutes are showing interest in start-ups in the state.
Chief Secretary of ICA department, Puneet Agarwal, director Dr Naresh babu N and others also spoke on the occasion.
Other dignitaries also attended the inaugural programme where the Chief Minister handed over financial assistance (cheaques) to two entrepreneurs.
At the end of the programme, the Chief Minister and others also inspected various models exhibited as part of the Tripura start-up week. FD PD JK
