Sri Lankan President appoints 29 deputy ministers from his National People’s Power

In Sri Lanka, days after appointing the new cabinet, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed 29 deputy ministers from his ruling National People’s Power.
Earlier on Monday, a 21 member cabinet was sworn in by the President in what has been termed as a relatively small cabinet in the last few decades. The constitution allows for appointing a maximum of 30 cabinet ministers and 40 deputy ministers.
Among those who were sworn in by the President include Anil Jayantha Fernando, Harshana Sooriyapperuma, Namal Karunarathne, Mohommed Muneer and Nalin Hewage among others.
