Sri Lanka witnessed record tourist arrivals in Jan 2025; India maintains the top spot

Sri Lanka has witnessed a record number of tourist arrivals in January 2025 as India continues to dominate as the top source market. The data released by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has revealed over 2.52 lakh tourist arrivals on the island.
The figures have surpassed the best figures recorded in pre-COVID times as well. India maintained its position as Sri Lanka’s largest source of tourist traffic, accounting for 17.2 per cent of total arrivals. The Russian Federation ranked second, with 13.5 per cent, followed by the United Kingdom at 8.6 per cent.
Over 2 Million tourist arrivals were reported in the year 2024 signalling a revival of the tourism industry. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority hopes to improve the tourism figures to 3 million this year with a targeted revenue of 5 billion dollars.
