Sprawling wetland, Shatero Miar haor in Kailashahar to be the major aqua park and tourists spot

Agartala, Nov 18 (FD) Shotero Miar Haor, a sprawling water body and its vicinity in Unakoti district of Tripura would be developed as another tourist spot and a grand aqua park to attract people, a minister said on Monday.
State Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das said that Union Minister of Fisheries Rajiv Ranjan Singh was invited to unveil the foundation stone of the aqua park project at Shotero Miar Haor site, about 10 km from Kailashaha, the headquarters of Unakoti district of Tripura.
“We have acquired more than 60 acres of land, which is wetland and the entire area would be converted into a modern high-tech aqua park, which would attract tourists, create livelihood for locals and would be a centre for research on fisheries”, Das told reporters following a review meeting of his department.
When the government has made the primary deal with the land owners have been completed now the final process for acquiring lands has been started.
Das said Union Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh was invited to lay the foundation stone of the project.
He said, “The project was suffering from inertia, but now we are seeing the silver lining. Deadlocks were identified and now we are in the implementation stage as it was found to be viable considering the geographical and social conditions of the place”.
Das said that the project is likely to ensure self-sufficiency in production of meat, fish, milk and eggs in the district.
He also pointed out that the fish farmers of the district incurred huge losses during the recent devastating flood and the department was finding out the ways to compensate their losses. FD JK
