Special flights arranged for safe return of Tripura students stranded in riot hit Manipur: CM

Agartala, May 6(FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today said the students stranded in riot hit Manipur are completely safe and the state government has arranged special flights for the students to return to their home state.
Saha said he had spoken to his counterpart in Manipur, N Biren Singh, who assured him that the students studying in Manipur are completely safe and adequate arrangement for their safety and security was arranged by the Manipur government.
Addressing a press conference he said the special commercial flight was arranged after talking to the union aviation Minister and one flight carrying 37 students, who are studying in central Agricultural university will be reaching at 1 am and another flight, who are mostly the students of medical and dental college would reach by tomorrow morning.
He said, earlier he had held series of meetings with the guardians of the students and high officials headed by the Chief Secretary JK Sinha.
Saha, who is also home minister of the state had spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday on the latest situation in Manipur and sought his intervention for the safe passage of the Tripura students.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s office said that Shah in his response assured Dr. Saha that all sorts of initiatives would be undertaken to protect the Tripura students.
Meanwhile, Tipra Motha Supremo and royal scion, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma in a face book post today said, “About 50 students who wanted to come back from Manipur because of the problems there have been given plane tickets so that they can return home and be with their family. I have taken the entire cost of their journey from my personal side. In hard times it's important to stand by our people!” FD JK
