Son sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his mother in Takarjala

Agartala, Sep 9 (FD) In a deeply disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, a son was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his own mother in Takarjala, Tripura. The Bishalgarh Sessions Judge Court delivered the verdict on Friday evening, marking the culmination of a harrowing ordeal that began on May 2, 2022.

The accused, identified as Ajay Debbarma, committed the heinous crime within the confines of their home. In response to the horrific assault, the mother bravely filed a case of rape against her own son at the Takarjala police station on May 5, 2022, with case number ST type 1/19/2022.

The police acted swiftly, arresting Debbarma and ensuring his detention in jail custody. Following a rigorous investigation, the court was presented with compelling evidence and the testimonies of 20 witnesses. Consequently, Additional Sessions Judge Bishal Gour found Debbarma guilty of rape under Section 376(2) (F) of the Indian Penal Code, sentencing him to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 10,000.

Government lawyer Gautam Giri emphasized the gravity of the crime, calling it rare and deserving of severe punishment. Local residents welcomed the court's decision and voiced their firm stance against such barbaric acts, demanding that Debbarma receive no leniency in jail. FD SB JK
