Agartala, May 28 (FD) In a joint operation, Tripura Police and the 43rd Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) seized a large consignment of smuggled goods from the Muslim Para area in Motai, near the India-Bangladesh border under Belonia police station, early this morning.
Acting on a tip-off, the team raided a desolate location and recovered 197 bottles of contraband Phensedyl, 20 cartons of Burmese cigarettes, and 152 sarees of various colours. These items were believed to be stored for smuggling across the border into Bangladesh.
Shibu Ranjan De, Officer-in-Charge of Belonia police station, stated that the seized goods were initially taken to the BSF border outpost for documentation before being handed over to the police. He added that the items would be presented in court for a judicial order regarding their safe custody.
While no arrests were made during the raid, police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the smuggling operation. Authorities suspect that the Muslim Para area is being used as a transit point for smuggling activities and have pledged to intensify efforts to curb such illegal trade along the border. FD JK
