Dharmanagar, Aug 16 (FD) At least six students were injured after a clash reportedly broke out at Churaibari Class XII School over the collection of membership for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), triggering tension in the area.
Two students associated with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the CPI(M), and four students reportedly associated with ABVP sustained injuries in the confrontation.
One of the injured students was reportedly in a serious condition and was later shifted to the GBP Hospital in Agartala for treatment.
According to allegations raised by SFI, the clash was linked to an attempt by ABVP supporters to collect membership from students on the school premises. SFI alleged that some of the ABVP-affiliated students who arrived at the school during the confrontation were not students of the institution.
SFI further claimed that a group had visited the school several days earlier and attempted to collect money from students in the name of membership or organisational activities. According to the organisation, several students had refused to pay, and some of them were allegedly targeted during the latest incident.
However, the allegations remain unverified and could not be independently established. The circumstances leading to the clash, including who initiated the violence and whether outsiders entered the school premises, are yet to be conclusively determined.
Meanwhile, ABVP has reportedly demanded the arrest within 48 hours of those allegedly involved in the clash from the SFI side. The organisation has threatened to launch an agitation if the arrests are not made within the stipulated period.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over political activities and student organisation membership drives on educational campuses. Questions have also been raised over the presence of political groups and their supporters around schools and whether adequate measures were taken to prevent the situation from escalating.
The clash has created tension in the Churaibari area, with supporters of the two student organisations blaming each other for the confrontation. Police and school authorities are expected to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and determine whether any non-students were involved.
The incident has also triggered sharp reactions on social media, with supporters of both SFI and ABVP trading allegations. Amid the competing claims, authorities face the immediate challenge of ensuring student safety and preventing any further escalation on or around the school campus. FD JK
