Six persons killed in several gun fights in Manipur

In Manipur, gunfights have been taking place at different places since early morning and six persons has been killed and many injured. Today in the early morning, one civilian was killed while victim was sleeping at his home in Jiribam district. The armed suspected militants shot at the head of victim and died on the spot. Later, gunfight took place in Nungchepi area under Jiribam Police Station between two groups. In the gunfight, four person including three suspected militants were killed.
The gunfight is taking place at Tangjeng Khunjao in Kalching district and two persons sustained bullet injuries. They were hospitalized. It may be mentioned that a civilian was killed and five injured when a local made rocket bomb blast in Moirang town. Later in the night, large number of people gherao two Manipur Rifles Battalions situated at different places and tried to loot arms and ammunitions. However, security forces control the situation and dispersed the public.
Manipur witnessed rocket attacks on Friday that killed a man staying on the premises of late former chief minister Mairenbam Koireng and destroyed two structures in the Bishnupur district.
Earlier in the week, two people were killed and several others were injured after drones were used by the militants to drop crude bombs on villages in Imphal West. Such was commotion that Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh called them ‘acts of terrorism.’
“Manipur state government takes such unprovoked assault with utmost seriousness and will take up necessary response to fight such forms of terrorism upon the indigenous population.”
Kabib said the state police force has deployed an anti-drone system at various locations and more supplies are being bought to tackle the air strikes.
The new action plan of militants carrying air strikes remained unheard of so far in the state where ethnic violence left over 200 people dead and thousands homeless since May last year.
