Agartala, Jan 2 (FD) CPI-M politburo member and former Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar on Thursday said that the situation in the state is changing and the left forces are being able to organize meetings and rallies in the state.
Addressing the annual conference of the state’s SC Welfare organization Sarkar said that after the debacle of the lefts in 2018, now people can come out of their houses to join meetings and the situation had come to this due non-fulfillment of their poll pledges.
“They just ran a terror after 2018 and killed many of our activists and supporters and then they took the strategy of severely injuring our activists, leaders and supporters. But now people can join political events up to some extent”, he said.
Sarkar said that the change is now inevitable because the way they gave assurances to people could not fulfill them and common people are now turning away from their folds.
“Today our hall is completely crowded, but there was a situation, when people did not go out. All these things were possible because our party had gradually created the situation and the people are also being disillusioned from them”, Sarkar said.
He also pointed out that the women-led Self help groups had risen from 4000 in 2018 to 52,000 in 2024 and around 4.73 lakh people are now engaged in these works.
“But, we need to remember that the SHGs were introduced in the state during the last left regime to economically empower women. Tripura was among the 7 to 8 states in the country that had successfully implemented the SHGs”, Sarkar added.
He alleged that the BJP was using them for their political interests and creating more numbers of SHGs.
“Prime Minister Modi has admitted that the women voters had played a key role in the party’s success in the last loksabha and the recently held Maharastra assembly elections”, Sarkar said.
He further alleged that the saffron party was using religious programmes to connect with the people.
“Now the religious programmes are being turned into political events. The people of the ruling party are organizing such programmes. I also appeal to our party workers or supporters to get involved in such programmes to get attached with people”, he said. FD JK
