Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Urges Youth to Preserve Cultural Heritage

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended the Kirati Khambu Rai Cultural Festival 2026 and joined the celebrations of the sacred Sakela Ubhauli festival in Darjeeling today.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the Sakela festival reflects harmony with nature, respect for ancestors, and the values of unity, gratitude and mutual respect. He stressed that preserving language and cultural heritage is a shared responsibility.
Mr. Tamang said that although Sikkim and Darjeeling are separated by administrative boundaries, they remain united by their shared language, culture, traditions and history. He also urged the younger generation to take pride in their rich cultural heritage while embracing future opportunities.
