Significant number of foreigners reaching Nepal to enjoy mountaineering

In Nepal, granting permits for spring mountaineering has begun for this year. According to Nepal’s Department of Tourism,  significant number of foreigners have turned up to climb the world’s 8000 m above summits this season.

The spring season, from March to May, is considered an ideal time for climbing peaks, including Everest. In the spring 2024 climbing season, a total of 612 mountaineers from 68 groups obtained climbing permits, with 274 specifically for Mount Everest. The Department of Tourism had collected royalties worth more than Rs 43 Crores from climbing permits alone.

During Sagarmatha Sambad, the government of Nepal revealed that the Department of Tourism had deputed an ‘icefall doctor’ to make way for climbing Mount Everest in the spring season. The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee has deployed a 10-member team to construct the road from the base camp to the second camp of Mount Everest.

Skilled Sherpa climbers have been deployed for rope fixing from the second camp to the summit of Mount Everest. In spring, climbers attempt peaks such as Everest, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, and Annapurna. Mountaineering expeditions typically last between 20 to 75 days. while visitors can also take mountain flights for Everest experience.
