Agartala, July 5 (FD) The ruling BJP in Tripura was shot in the arms again as 10 senior leaders from opposition Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) today joined the saffron party ahead of the parliamentary elections due early next year.
The leaders of the different parties joined the saffron camp in a simple ceremony organized at the BJP headquarters here.
State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya handed over the saffron flags to the newcomers in presence of the party's state General Secretary, Amit Rakhsit and state minister for tourism, Sushanta Chowdhury.
Those who have joined include TMC state president Asish Lal Singh, General Secretary Koheli Das, Secretary of TMC Krishankanta Debnath, Biswanath Ghosh, and Swapandip Chakraborty. Those who have joined the Congress party are Tripura Pradesh General Secretary and Spokesperson, Prasanta Bhattacharya, Sadar District Secretary Rajib Das and Sudarsan Majumder and Asish Deb.
Senior left leader and state committee member of CITU, Surajit Bhattacharya also joined the BJP.
Chowdhury, who is also the minister for Food and Civil Supplies, slammed the Congress for its ‘bankrupt nature’.
“The party became bankrupt and totally rejected by the masses as it joined hands with its arch rival CPI-M before the assembly elections held early this year. The same experiment was done before the assembly elections in West Bengal, but they did not draw any lesson”, he told reporters during the joining program.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most charismatic leader in the country, who helped the return of BJP in the state for the second time. FD JK
