Agartala, Nov 30 (FD) With only five months left for the parliamentary elections in the country the ruling BJP today expelled former party MLA and invitee member of the party state committee, Arun Chandra Bhowmik for six years allegedly for ‘violation of party’s ideal and anti-party activities’.
A statement issued by the party’s Media in-charge, Sunit Sarkar said, “His activities were against the party ideals and he was also engaged in anti-party activities. The expulsion order takes immediate effect”.
However, Bhowmik himself said that he would join the Congress party soon and the letter of expulsion does not carry any importance to him.
“The letter of expulsion issued by BJP has no importance to me. I am already with Congress and will formally join the party after Priyanka Gandhi arrives in the state next month. My political career began with Congress and I was state youth Congress president and had contested the assembly elections from Hrishyamukh assembly constituency as Congress candidate in 1977”, he told reporters.
Bhowmik was elected as an MLA from Belonia constituency in South Tripura district in 2018, but was denied a party ticket in the last elections held in February this year.
He visited Congress Bhawan here yesterday and criticized BJP as there is no discipline in the party and denied him party ticket in the last elections.
“There is no discipline in the party. Despite being a winner in the 2018 state elections, I was denied a party ticket last time because party tickets were distributed by taking bribes”, he said.
Bhomik, also a senior advocate of the High Court of Tripura, alleged that the administration in the state failed to deliver good governance to people of the state. FD JK
