Security tightened for the Lok Sabha election in Tripura

Agartala, Apr 8 (FD) 856 km long border with Bangladesh has been sealed and altogether 12000 security forces including 84 companies of Central paramilitary forces and 4500 state paramilitary, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) would be deployed for the two parliamentary constituencies in Tripura, a senior police officer said.
Assistant Inspector General (Law and Order) Jyotishman Das Chaudhury said, 84 companies of the
Central Paramilitary Forces have already been deployed and the rest would be deployed before the elections.
Elections for the two parliamentary constituencies would be held in two phases in the state. In the first phase on April 19 elections would be held for the West Tripura parliamentary constituency along with the by-election in Ramnagar assembly seat.
In the second phase on April 26, elections would be held for the East Tripura reserve (ST) constituency.
Das Chowdhury said when the major portion of the security forces would be deployed in the first phase of the elections in West Tripura constituency and then strong contingents of forces would be further deployed for the second phase of elections.
BSF sources said they were keeping a close vigil on the situation on the border and security tightened so that no untoward elements could sneak into Indian Territory on or before the elections as the state is surrounded by an international border on three sides.
While there are 1,685 polling booths in the West Tripura parliamentary constituency, there are 1,664 polling booths in the East Tripura constituency.
Area domination and vulnerability mapping of the constituencies have already been started, officials said. FD JK
