Second successful kidney transplantation held in Tripura

Agartala, Nov 12 (FD) Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant hospital has successfully conducted second kidney transplantation in Tripura in collaboration with the SIJA super specialty hospital in Manipur.
Medical Superintendent of G.B Hospital, Shankar Chakraborty said the donor of the kidney and the recipient both are fine and healthy and no complications in post operative time were found.
He said a team was formed with the specialists from Sija hospital and the doctors of the AGMC and altogether Rs. Six lakh was spent for the entire operation including the flight fairs of the specialists from Manipr, but the patient or the family got the treatment free of cost.
Chakraborty said, the GB Pant Hospital is considering partnering with the Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network Foundation (MOHAN), a well-known non-profit organization, to make possible the search for cadaveric donors.
He also said that the number of refer cases in the state has come down to less than what two years ago and added that with some initiatives and collaboration with a few reputed organizations all most all types of treatment would be possible in the state and patients would not have to go outside Tripura for treatment.
