Seat sharing issue between Congress and CPI(M) resolved: Sinha

Agartala, Feb 2 (FD): The seat sharing agreement between Congress and CPI(M), which ran into rough weather after the Congress fielded three candidates against CPI(M) and the party fielded 17 candidates against Congress was amicably solved.
State Pradesh Congress Chief Birajit Sinha said, “to pay respect to the seat sharing between Congress and CPI-M we have withdrawn o9ur candidates and CPI(M) also had withdrawn 17 of their candidates patted against us”.
He said his party wanted to restore democracy and pacify communal tension in the state, which prompted them for a seat sharing with CPI(M).
“Initially there was some understanding so three candidates filed against CPI-M and in return they also fielded 13 candidates against us. But now, on the last date of withdrawal of nomination both the parties have withdrawn their candidates”, Sinha told reporters.
The CPI (M) also said in a statement that as the Congress withdrew the candidates, CPI(M) also withdrew the candidates.
Now Congress would contest in 13 constituencies, while CPI-M would contest in 46 seats and one seat was allotted for an independent candidate. FD JK
