In a landmark effort to boost international collaboration and investment in India's North Eastern Region (NER), the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) organized the Ambassadors' Meet in New Delhi on April 15, 2025. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from ambassadors, high commissioners, and senior diplomats representing over 80 countries.
Graced by Minister of Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the event aimed to highlight NER’s immense economic potential, strategic importance, and role as a gateway to Southeast Asia. In his keynote address, the Minister emphasized that the North East—with its natural beauty, cultural richness, and geopolitical location—is poised to become a hub for trade, connectivity, and innovation under the Act East Policy.
Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for MDoNER, elaborated on key developmental milestones achieved over the past decade under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. He positioned the North East as a pillar of “Viksit Bharat,” inviting foreign investors to capitalize on the growth of sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and skill development.
In a compelling video message, Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar echoed similar sentiments, referencing major infrastructure projects like the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Project and underlining NER’s role in connecting India to Southeast Asian markets.
Secretary, MDoNER, Chanchal Kumar gave a detailed presentation on investment avenues spanning sectors including IT & ITES, healthcare, textiles, tourism, logistics, and energy. He affirmed MDoNER’s commitment to collaborating with international stakeholders to channel expertise and investments into projects that spur employment and sustainable growth.
Further underscoring the region’s strategic edge, Secretary (East), MEA, Periasamy Kumaran, highlighted that NER borders five countries—Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Nepal, and Myanmar—making it a crucial node for regional connectivity and cross-border partnerships.
The meet also served as a prelude to the North East Investors Summit, slated for May 23–24, 2025, and successfully set the stage for deeper diplomatic and economic engagements. The event concluded with diplomats expressing strong interest in tapping into the NER’s vast, untapped potential.
