Agartala, Jan 16 (FD) The state government has taken the initiative to develop satellite towns in Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar. Along with creating a "One Tripura, Best Tripura," we also aspire to build a "One Agartala, Best Agartala." Everyone must contribute to this effort. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha made these remarks this evening while inaugurating the Sharad Samman 2024 event organized by the Agartala Municipal Corporation at Rabindra Centenary Hall.
Awards were presented today for the best idol, best pavilion, best lighting, best theme, and best women-led Durga Puja from among the celebrations organized by various clubs and puja committees across 51 wards under Agartala Municipal Corporation. The Chief Minister, along with other guests, handed over beautifully crafted trophies and cash prizes to the representatives of the winning clubs and puja committees.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has adopted the "Act East" policy to promote the development of northeastern states. He emphasized that without progress in the northeast, the nation’s development would remain incomplete. He highlighted the significant improvements in air, rail, and national highway connectivity within the state. The state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and per capita income have increased substantially. Among northeastern states, Tripura has been recognized as the "Best Performer State." The Chief Minister also referred to the devastating floods in the state last August and commended the cooperation of residents alongside the administration’s efforts in flood management. He affirmed that the people of Tripura have trust in the government’s ability to meet challenges. He extended his gratitude to the Agartala Municipal Corporation for successfully driving various developmental initiatives.
Tourism and Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized that good governance and law and order are prerequisites for development. He noted that the state's law and order situation has improved significantly, leading to a rise in the number of Durga Puja and Ganesh Puja celebrations. He recalled that earlier, Vijayadashami was marked by fear, whereas now, scientifically managed idol immersion processes have been adopted. He urged people from all walks of life to contribute to making Agartala a more progressive smart city.
Guest of honor and MP Rajib Bhattacharya remarked that a journey of positive thinking has begun, with the state government working on inclusive plans for all. He highlighted initiatives aimed at building a self-reliant Tripura as part of a self-reliant India and called on everyone to join hands in creating a drug-free society.
In his presidential address, Deepak Majumder, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA, said the work to beautify Agartala has already begun. The municipal corporation is implementing scientific methods to deliver civic services. He called on local clubs and social organizations to take responsibility for keeping Agartala clean and beautiful. Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, delivered the welcome speech, while Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta and other dignitaries were also present. Judges of the Sharad Samman awards were felicitated, with the Chief Minister and guests presenting them with mementos. FD SB
