Agartala, Nov 22 (FD) Manik Sarkar, a Politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM), called upon party workers and leaders in Agartala to play a pivotal role in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
Addressing an event commemorating late CPIM leader Vasudeb Acharya, Sarkar emphasized the need for the party to consolidate its efforts following the distinctions between 'friend' and 'enemy' revealed in the recently concluded 2023 Assembly election.
Sarkar urged party members to focus on grassroots efforts and collective strength to navigate the evolving political landscape. He stated, "The 2023 assembly elections have unveiled our friends and enemies. Now, it’s imperative to gear up for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections by adopting party programs in our respective areas."
Anticipating challenges ahead, Sarkar advised party members to be prepared for opposition and criticism, emphasizing the changed political situation.
Reflecting on the 2018 elections, Sarkar highlighted alleged interference by BJP workers, preventing voters from reaching polling stations, and emphasized the need for fair and transparent elections.
Painting a grim picture of the current national scenario, Sarkar accused the BJP of misrule, stating, “A complicated situation is going on. The RSS-controlled government is aligning with big capitalists and US imperialists, attempting to undermine the constitution and erode secularism.”
Calling for unity, Sarkar urged people to stand against the BJP, declaring, “Tripura can play a significant role in the Lok Sabha elections.”
Other prominent leaders, including CPIM’s Manik Dey and former MP Shankar Prasad Dutta, paid their respects to the late Vasudev Acharya in the meeting. They pledged to continue the fight, echoing Sarkar’s call for mobilisation in preparation for the 2024 elections. FD SB
